use your voice!!

I’ve always enjoyed the primary process, especially seeing Presidential candidates up close and personal. This year I saw my top three Democrats: Bernie Sanders; Amy Klobuchar and Pete Buttigieg.

Uncle Tim – aka Dad for you Beaupre kids  – joined me at the big Bernie rally at UNH the night before the NH Primary election. It featured terrific guest speakers – including the highly influential young “AOC” – Alexandria Ocasio Cortez. The place was packed and there was such an exicitng vibe in the air.

After Bernie did his thing (amazing energy for a 78 year old man), The Strokes performed.  It was such a hopeful event – father and son both voted for Bernie the next day.

Always treasure your right to vote. It absolutely does make a difference when one person expresses their viewpoint.  Use your voice!

happy new hockey stick!

It’s been epic seeing your hockey abilities transform over the years. You love being on the ice – we love every minute watching you.  Your old stick was getting a little short so Grammy & I brought you to buy a new one.  May you steal many pucks, make great passes and score many goals!IMG_4519 IMG_4521

a sweet, game winning goal

it was cold, parka-wool hat early morning at Manchester Central rink.  Grammy and I were there, along with your Dad and a handful of others, to watch your team play a tough squad from a much larger city.

It’s been cool watching you gain confidence and transform your game over the years.  You’ve always loved breakaways… in fact you’ve got a real talent anticipating these opportunities when you’re in the defensive zone.  You have the intuition and are always looking to create the precise moment when you can get your stick on the puck and break free from competition.

When you were younger the moment sometimes – not often – got away from you when you pulled the trigger a little too early.  Today’s game winner reflected the confidence and maturity of a 14 year old who’s played hockey since he was five.

Reaching the area before the crease, you patiently waited, watched, moved right to left and put on a sweet fake before taking the shot.  No contest.  The Manchester goalie didn’t have a chance. Way to go C-man.

happy new year!

Happy New Year Camden!

2020 will be a notable year; you’ll leave your childhood/elementary years behind, graduate from 8th grade and get ready for high school. How can that be? Crazy.

Keep learning, exploring and pushing yourself to try new things and reach new heights.  There’s no stopping you. Always believe in yourself and never compare yourself to anyone else.

a come from behind VICTORY!

We introduced your best friend Eli to Dark Tower on Saturday night. We gave him the background about this Milton Bradley game; sold in the early 1980’s (one of the early “digital’ board games) but within a few years they stopped making it. Dark Tower is still available, but at a high price on sites like EBay where you pay hundreds of dollars.

“Dark Tower and Risk are my two favorite board games,” you said.

He was in the lead most of the way but as you entered your home territory you turned on the afterburners and kicked some serious butt.  The Sanctuary doubled your warrior force and soon you were battling the tower, solving the Riddle of the Keys in two steps! Impressive. The final battle was a rout – your 55 warriors had the brigands running right from the start and you never looked back. Eli was a little shocked, I think he thought he had the game in the bag, but it was not the case.  Congrats on another Dark Tower VICTORY!

Oreo, one cool cat

When I grew up we always had anywhere from 2-3 cats at any one time  – and often litters of kittens.  We had 20 or so total cat pets in all over a 10-15 year period when my sister and I grew up.  I’ve known a LOT of cats and have pretty good cat perspective.

I must say Oreo is my favorite feline ever.

He’s not afraid of Zoey; in fact he loves to start a battle, and usually wins.

He waits (like a dog) for all of you to come home, lying there by the door.

I’ve never known a cat so calm and confident. He lets Maddie put him in her doll stroller and walk around the house. Could care less, totally comfortable.

He doesn’t run away (like every cat I’ve ever known) when people show up.  He sits there, or walks up to you, and lets you pat him.

Great cookie; cool cat.

easy conversations & special times

IMG_3647IMG_3636 IMG_3646 IMG_3643 IMG_3640 IMG_3628I woke up Tuesday morning, October 30, to a text from you:

HI. I’m trying to skip school tomorrow because I “don’t feel good” and am wondering if you could do something.  My Mom is cool with it but I’m not sure my Dad’s convinced. What are you up to today?

What an awesome way to start a new day – an invitation from my grandson to spend the day together.   Later, your Dad told me “pretty cool that he wants to hang with his granddad on his day off.”

So true, I’m the luckiest guy on the planet. I can’t think of anything more gratifying.

The coolest part of being together? Our far ranging discussions.  You’ve got a curious mind, are as bright as the North Star and aren’t shy about sharing your knowledge or expressing your thoughts and opinions. I love that because it all adds up to fun conversations.  To make my point, here’s a shortlist of what we covered:

What Trump’s done to deserve impeachment

the shape of submarine propellers and how they work

service men & women who died on submarines; claustrophobia and tiny bed bunks

The tagline of Elizabeth Warren – “Dream big, fight hard.”  (you knew it off the top of your head; impressive)

starting a company; being an entrepreneur, the early days

One Tree Planted, the environmental movement that’s planting a tree for every dollar raised

https://onetreeplanted.org/pages/about-us

why board games are so cool (your view; I agree)

Popular election vs. the Electoral College

You picked out a harmonica at Macro Polo, our favorite funny store. I explained the importance of blowing out and sucking in when playing “the harp.”  Some famous music artists didn’t know this when they started!

My souvenir at Macro Polo was a tiny tiny can of “Impeachmints”

last night’s concert at OR High when you planed bass guitar, drums and acoustic guitar – how the songs were chosen

hockey

Spotify, why it’s awesome  and how to create annual favorite song playlists

William Whipple, one of the signers of the Declaration of Independence

model trains and miniature sets

G.I. Joe

learning how to maneuver through a VR reality

Like I said, this is only a shortlist.  I bet we talked about 50 other things. So cool. Darn lucky to have you in my life.

Per our typical get together extravaganzas, we packed the day with as much cool stuff as possible. It included:

Albacore submarine museum

a visit to the location of the first Beaupre & Co. Public Relations office (located at 208 Market Street in Portsmouth). We went up the stairs and I showed you the area where Grammy and I (and a few employees) occupied one side of the second floor (we had four offices, linked together with doors).

a walk through Portsmouth including St. John’s Church where George Washington attended a Sunday service

Bennett’s for yummy cheese steak subs

Museum of Dumb Guy stuff (trains, tanks, dogs and neat old guys with cool hobbies)

Macro Polo store laughs (what no fake dog poo? look, giant underwear!)

candy & shakes in Durham

Virtual reality gaming at your house

playing Risk

Toward the end of the day you said “It will be hard to do this next year when I’m in high school.”  That hit hard. These are special days. I hope we can find a way to keep our special get together’s alive, no matter how old we are.

Love you C-man.
